About Giuseppe McGuire

Giuseppe McGuire is a series of children's books aimed at teaching kids some valuable life lessons and giving them hope for a future of unlimited possibilities!

In 2008, local children's author Heather Smidt, M.Ed. saw that many of the parents at her preschool were losing their jobs. This meant families were looking for ways to cut costs and many parents were switching careers. These were concepts that she felt her students were struggling to understand. After making her own career change in 2009, Heather felt that there needed to be a book for young readers that touched on this subject. She crafted Giuseppe McGuire from Old Boston Town to show children that hard work, determination, and belief in one's self can lead to great things.

About the creators

Heather Smidt, M.Ed. is a licensed massage therapist and Reiki Master Teacher in the Boston area. In her former career, she was an elementary and preschool educator. While teaching preschool, she grew to love children's literature. She uses her education background to craft children's stories that engage children while preparing them to be successful readers.

Nick Zagami went to the Savannah College of Art and Design and worked in the comics industry for several years before moving into visual effects for film and television. He has since left VFX to get back to his illustration roots and plans on drawing for a good long while.

The couple met in Savannah in 2005 and have been happily married since 2008! Giuseppe is their labor of love. His message that you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up speaks to our times. They hope this will show young people to persevere and follow their hearts.
